what and why

one of my most fun projects yet has been setting up my own home server!
i intended for the home server to host various services locally on my home network, but also serve as a media center.
i started off with a desktop (amd fx6300 cpu and r9 280 gpu), installing debian and setting it up for general use.

i am considering jumping ship to a raspberry pi as this would reduce my server’s footprint and noise levels.

issues

  • an audio issue suddenly appeared, resulting in noticeable crackling during audio playback, but more prominently when pausing playback. troubleshooting has led me to believe that the system suffers from buffer underflows, meaning the audio driver is receiving data at a slower speed than is being read.
